Notes. Alexeev (1977) described this subgenus as follows: monoecious, with extravaginal shoots, without coriaceous squamiform leaves at the base, without auricles, the sheaths closed for (1/5-) 1/4 or more of the length, blades flat, usually without ribs on the top, less commonly ribbed, glumes coriaceo-membranous, shorter than lemma. Lemma coriaceo-membranous, narrowly lanceolate, with 35 veins, apex acuminate, awned, less commonly awnless, callus short and glabrous, anthers 0.84 mm long, ovary more or less hairy at the apex, caryopsis free, less commonly adhering with the palea and lemma, hilum a linear ventral groove, more than 1/2 the length of the caryopsis.
