Vegetative morphology. Culms (30)40120(150) cm tall. Leaf blades flat (rarely loosely convolute). Leaf blades adaxial lateral longitudinal ridges distinctly raised (usually). Leaf blades 215 mm wide. Adaxial to abaxial sclerenchyma strands present (as individual bands opposite vascular bundles).
Floral morphology. Glumes herbaceous (membranous only along the margins). Lemmas somewhat dorsally compressed (without a keel). Lemmas apices awns present, or absent. Ovary apices glabrous, or hairy (densely).
