Type: Lectotype: F. montana Bieb. =F. drymeja Mert. et Koch.

Vegetative morphology. Culms 60–100 cm tall. Sheaths shorter than the internode. Sheaths not conspicuous at the base of the plant. Auricles absent. Ligules (0.5–)1.5–3(–5) mm long. Leaf blades flat. Leaf blades (1–)3–12(–15) mm wide. Adaxial to abaxial sclerenchyma strands present, or absent.

Floral morphology. Inflorescences loosely open. Inflorescences branches scabrous on the angles.

Notes. Monoecious plants, 50–150 cm tall with coriaceous scaly leaves at the base of shoots; leaf sheaths with auricles; lamina always flat, 5–15 mm broad, with slightly raised narrow ridges; sclerenchyma as individual bands, opposite vascular bundles; glumes membranous only along margins; lemma carinate only in upper part, awnless; ovary densely pilose at tip. Classification following Tzvelev (1976).
