Notes. Monecious, predominantly meadow and steppe plants 5100 cm tall; leaf sheaths without aruicles; lamina usually convolute, rarely flat and then less than 2.5 mm broad, usually with prominent ridges on upper (inner) surface; sclerenchyma arranged variously, often fused into a continuous subepidermal layer or in 3 prominent bands, glumes membranous along the margins; lemma awnless or awned.
