Vegetative morphology. Plants loosely tufted. Culms 60–80 cm tall. Culms 2.5–3.5 mm wide. Culms strict, erect. Culms nodes 3–4. Sheaths shorter than the internode. Sheaths glabrous. Auricles claw-like (lanceolate and straight). Ligules 0.4–0.6 mm long. Leaf blades linear. Leaf blades flat. Leaf blades 10–15 cm long. Leaf blades 4–6 mm wide. Leaf blades adaxial surfaces with trichomes. Leaf blades adaxial surfaces scabrous. Leaf blades abaxial surfaces with trichomes. Leaf blades abaxial surfaces scabrous. Leaf blades margins scabrous.

Floral morphology. Inflorescences loosely open. Inflorescences 15–25 cm long. Inflorescences branches 5–8(–15) cm long. Inflorescences branches at the lowest nodes 2. Upper with more spikelets. Spikelets lower third of the branches without spikelets. Spikelets 16–18 mm long. Spikelets greenish. Florets 4–5. Glumes apices accuminate (second glumes), or acute (first glumes). First glume narrowly lanceolate. First glume 1.5–2.5 mm long. First glume 1 nerved. Second glume narrowly lanceolate. Second glume 3–3.5 mm long. Second glume 3 nerved. Second glume shorter than first lemma. Lemmas 6–7 mm long. Lemmas veins 5. Lemmas with trichomes. Lemmas scabrous (densely). Lemmas trichomes over the entire surface. Lemmas upper margins broadly membranous, or narrowly membranous. Lemmas apices notched. Lemmas apices accuminate. Lemmas apices awns 6–8 mm long (arising from lobes). Lemmas apices awns about as long as the lemmas. Paleas equal or subequal to the lemmas. Paleas keels scaberulous, or scabrous. Paleas inter-keel regions punctiform, or scabrous. Anthers 1.3–1.7 mm long. Ovary apices hairy.

Ecology. Flowering time July-Aug. Under alpine Quercus forests, along streamside on grasslands of mountain slopes ; 2700–3600 m. Distribution. Southwestern China: Sichuan, Yunnan, Xizang.

Notes. Apparently to be close to F. gigantea but we have not seen specimens.
