Leaf blades erect, stiffish. Leaf blades linear (but narrow). Leaf blades flat, or involute. Leaf blades adaxial lateral longitudinal ridges distinctly raised. Leaf blades (5–)10–25 cm long. Leaf blades 3–4 mm wide. Leaf blades adaxial surfaces glabrous. Leaf blades abaxial surfaces glabrous. Leaf blades margins smooth, or scabrous. Leaf blades apices weakly prow tipped, or not prow tipped. Flag leaves blades 10 cm long. Flag leaves blades distinctly shorter than the sheath. Veins 13–15. Adaxial to abaxial sclerenchyma strands absent. Abaxial sclerenchyma well developed. Abaxial sclerenchyma in narrow or discrete strands. Ribs 11 (centre rib and 10 lateral ribs well defined).

Floral morphology. Inflorescences broadly lanceolate. Inflorescences loosely open. Inflorescences 11–15 cm long (surrounded by the flag leaf sheath). Inflorescences branches (2–)4–8 cm long. Inflorescences lowest internodes 3 cm long. Inflorescences branches at the lowest nodes 2. Inflorescences branches flexible. 3–5 fertile spikelets on the longest branches. Inflorescences branches angular in cross section. Inflorescences branches scabrous on the angles. Inflorescences branches vestiture moderate, or dense. Pedicels (1–)4–6(–11) mm long. Spikelets lower third of the branches without spikelets, or lower half of the branches without spikelets. Spikelets 10–13 mm long. Spikelets 4.5–5.5 mm wide. Spikelets greenish. Spikelets broadly lanceolate. Florets 4–6(–8). Glumes with trichomes. Glumes surfaces pubescent. Glumes vestiture on the veins, or over most of the outer surface. Glumes margins ciliate. Glumes margins narrowly membranous (narrowly). Glumes apices accuminate. First glume narrowly lanceolate. First glume 5.1–6 mm long. First glume 1 nerved. First glume 0.7–0.8 as long as second glume. Second glume lanceolate. Second glume 6–7 mm long. Second glume 3 nerved. Second glume similar in length to first lemma. Second glume 0.65–0.75 as long as the spikelets. Rachilla internodes 1.2–1.5 mm long. Rachilla internodes antrorsely scabrous. Rachilla internodes flattened. Rachilla internodes narrow. Rachilla internodes straight, or curved (slightly). Lemmas 7–8 mm long. Lemmas lanceolate, or broadly lanceolate. Lemmas somewhat dorsally compressed. Lemmas veins 5. Lemmas with distinct veins in dorsal view. Lemmas with trichomes. Lemmas pubescent. Lemmas trichomes over the entire surface. Lemmas margins scabrous. Lemmas upper margins narrowly membranous. Lemmas apices accuminate. Lemmas apices awns (2–)4–7 mm long. Lemmas apices awns about as long as the lemmas. Paleas 7.5–8.5 mm long. Paleas 0.9–1.1 mm apart. Paleas equal or subequal to the lemmas. Paleas keels scabrous. Paleas inter-keel regions puberulent, or pubescent. Anthers 3.5–4 mm long. Ovary apices glabrous.

Ecology. Flowering time Jun-July. Alpine-meadows; 3600–3800 m. Distribution. Southwestern China: Yunnan.

Notes. Lu (1992) placed this taxon in sect. Longiglumes. In our data analyses this taxon was the last one to cluster with this section and it did not align with other members of the section in the cladistic analyses.

Illustrations. • Isotype at KUN. An Isotype specimen at KUN: No. 0338536, Jinshajiang Exp. 63–6168. Note tussock-like base to the plant, and leaves born on the culms and loose inflorescences with few spikelets. • Leaf anatomy. Illulstraiton from Acta Phytotax. Sin. 30(6): 530.1992, with the original description. Leaf blades erect, stiffish, linear (but narrow), involute or conduplicate (usually),1.8–2 mm wide, 1–1.2 mm deep; veins 13–15; adaxial to abaxial sclerenchyma strands absent; abaxial sclerenchyma well developed, in discrete, relatively narrow strands opposite the veins; ribs 11 (centre rib and 10 lateral ribs well defined). • One branch of the Isotype.
