Leaf blades adaxial surfaces pubescent (along the veins). Leaf blades abaxial surfaces glabrous. Veins 7. Adaxial to abaxial sclerenchyma strands absent. Abaxial sclerenchyma poorly developed. Abaxial sclerenchyma in narrow or discrete strands. Ribs 7.
Floral morphology. Inflorescences loosely open. Inflorescences 7–9 cm long. Inflorescences branches 2.5–5 cm long. Inflorescences branches at the lowest nodes 1–2. 7 fertile spikelets on the longest branches. Inflorescences branches scabrous on the angles. Spikelets evenly distributed along the branches, or lower third of the branches without spikelets. Spikelets 17–18 mm long. Spikelets greenish (grey). Spikelets broadly lanceolate. Florets 8–10. Glumes glabrous. Glumes margins narrowly membranous (narrowly). Glumes apices acute. First glume linear, or lanceolate. First glume 2.5–3 mm long. First glume 1 nerved. Second glume lanceolate, or broadly lanceolate. Second glume 3.5–4 mm long. Second glume 3 nerved. Second glume shorter than first lemma. Rachilla internodes 0.9–1.1 mm long (smooth). Rachilla internodes glabrous. Lemmas 6.5–7 mm long. Lemmas veins 5. Lemmas glabrous. Lemmas apices accuminate. Lemmas apices awns absent. Paleas equal or subequal to the lemmas. Paleas keels glabrous. Anthers 2.8–3.2 mm long. Ovary apices hairy.
Ecology. Flowering time July. In meadows; 2900 m. Distribution. Southwestern China: Yunnan.
Notes. Lu (1992) placed this taxon in Subg. Drymanthele sect. Muticae and named it as the type species of the section.
