Vegetative morphology. Plants loosely tufted, or turf forming. Plants clumped moderately. Plants with non-flowering shoots less common than flowering shoots. Plants with leaves along the stems. Plants with tillering leaves over half the length of the culms. Plants with shoots extravaginal. Culms 40–65 cm tall. Culms 0.8–1.2(–1.5) mm wide. Culms geniculate, or strict, erect. Culms internodes glabrous. Culms nodes 3–4. Uppermost culms nodes in mid 1/3 of the culm. Sheaths shorter than the internode. Sheaths glabrous. Sheaths open more than half their length. Sheaths not conspicuous at the base of the plant. Sheaths splitting between the veins. Auricles absent. Ligules 0.2–0.4 mm long. Ligules margins ciliate. Ligules apices erose, or lacerate. Leaf blades more or less lax. Leaf blades linear. Leaf blades flat, or involute. Leaf blades adaxial lateral longitudinal ridges indistinctly raised. Leaf blades (16–)20–35 cm long. Leaf blades 2.5–3.5(–4) mm wide. Leaf blades adaxial surfaces glabrous. Leaf blades abaxial surfaces glabrous. Flag leaves blades 18–25 cm long. Flag leaves blades distinctly longer than the sheath. Veins 7–12 (about). Adaxial to abaxial sclerenchyma strands present. Abaxial sclerenchyma poorly developed. Abaxial sclerenchyma in narrow or discrete strands.

Floral morphology. Inflorescences lanceolate, or broadly lanceolate. Inflorescences loosely open. Inflorescences 10–22 cm long. Inflorescences branches 3–8(–10) cm long. Inflorescences lowest internodes 2.5–4 cm long. Inflorescences branches at the lowest nodes 1. Inflorescences branches flexible. 3–7 fertile spikelets on the longest branches. Inflorescences branches flattened and ribbon-like. Inflorescences branches scabrous on the angles. Inflorescences branches vestiture sparse, or moderate. Pedicels 2–5(–7) mm long. Spikelets evenly distributed along the branches. Spikelets 10–12 mm long. Spikelets 2–3.5 mm wide. Spikelets greenish. Spikelets narrowly lanceolate, or lanceolate. Florets 5–6. Glumes glabrous. Glumes margins not ciliate. Glumes margins narrowly membranous. Glumes apices accuminate. First glume narrowly lanceolate. First glume 5.1–6 mm long. First glume 1 nerved. First glume 0.6–0.7 as long as second glume. Second glume lanceolate. Second glume 8–9 mm long. Second glume 3 nerved. Second glume similar in length to first lemma. Second glume 0.65–0.75 as long as the spikelets. Rachilla internodes 1.3–1.5 mm long. Rachilla internodes antrorsely scabrous (sparse). Rachilla internodes flattened. Rachilla internodes narrow. Rachilla internodes straight, or curved. Lemmas 7–8.5(–10) mm long. Lemmas lanceolate. Lemmas subcoriaceous. Lemmas somewhat dorsally compressed. Lemmas veins 5. Lemmas nerveless in dorsal view or sometimes with only the centre vein distinct. Lemmas glabrous. Lemmas upper margins narrowly membranous. Lemmas apices accuminate. Lemmas apices awns 7–10 mm long. Lemmas apices awns about as long as the lemmas, or much longer than the lemmas. Paleas 7.5–8 mm long. Paleas 0.82–0.9 mm apart. Paleas keels scabrous. Paleas inter-keel regions scabrous, or puberulent. Anthers 1.8–2 mm long. Ovary apices glabrous.

Ecology. Flowering time August. On mountain slopes , near forests; 2900 m. Distribution. Southwestern China: Yunnan.

Notes. Lu (1992) placed this taxon in sect. Longiglumes and named this taxon as the type species. The clustering analysis lend some support to this classification.

Illustrations. • Plant black and white drawing. Drawing from Acta Phytotax. Sin. 30(6): 531.1992, with the original description. • Isotype specimen. Note flat leaves distirubted the culms. An Isotype specimen, KUN: No. 0338539, Jinshajiang Exp. 63–6935. • Leaf anatomy. Drawing from Acta Phytotax. Sin. 30(6): 531.1992, with the original description. Leaf blades more or less lax, linear, flat (young vegetative shoots leaf blades may be conduplicate as drawn), adaxial lateral longitudinal ridges indistinctly raised; adaxial to abaxial sclerenchyma strands present. Abaxial sclerenchyma poorly developed, in discrete, relatively narrow strands opposite the veins. • Drawing of spikelet. Drawing from Acta Phytotax. Sin. 30(6): 531.1992, with the original description. Spikelets 10–12 mm long, 2–3.5 mm wide, greenish, narrowly lanceolate or lanceolate. Florets 5–6(-7). • Close up to Isotype's spikelets. Spikelet beside scale bar is approximately 10 mm long, with conspicuously long and narrow glumes, and lanceolate lemmas with arns longer than the body of the lemma. • Plant glumes. Drawing from Acta Phytotax. Sin. 30(6): 531.1992, with the original description. First glume narrowly lanceolate, 5–6 mm long, 1 nerved, 0.6–0.7 as long as second glume. Second glumes lanceolate, 8–9 mm long, 0.65–0.75 as long as the spikelets, 3 nerved, as long as the first lemma, or almost as long. • Plant floret. Drawing from Acta Phytotax.
