Festuca jacutica Drobov Trav. Mus. Bot. Acad. Sci. Petersb. 14: 163–165. pl. 6: f. 14–17. 1915.

ÑÅ¿âÑòé YA KU YANG MAO.

Subg. Festuca L. sect. Aulaxyer.

Vegetative morphology. Plants turf forming. Culms 50–80 cm tall. Culms internodes glabrous. Culms nodes 2–3. Sheaths shorter than the internode. Sheaths glabrous. Sheaths conspicuous at the base of the plant, persisting for more than 1 year (with withering sheaths at base). Auricles erect swellings, or absent. Ligules 0.1–0.3 mm long. Ligules margins ciliolate. Leaf blades filiform. Leaf blades conduplicate. Leaf blades 4–8(–30) cm long. Leaf blades 0.3 mm wide. Veins 5–7. Adaxial to abaxial sclerenchyma strands absent. Abaxial sclerenchyma well developed (sclerenchyma 7–9). Abaxial sclerenchyma in broad bands or continuous. Ribs 5–7 (centre rib and 4 lateral ribs may well developed).

Floral morphology. Inflorescences oblong. Inflorescences spiciform (loose). Inflorescences 5–10 cm long. Inflorescences branches 2–3 cm long. Inflorescences branches scabrous on the angles, or glabrous. Spikelets (5–)6.5–7.5 mm long. Spikelets greenish, or purplish (usually). Florets 5–7. Glumes glabrous. Glumes margins broadly membranous. First glume narrowly lanceolate. First glume 1.8–2.2 mm long. First glume 1 nerved. Second glume broadly lanceolate. Second glume 2.8–3.2 mm long. Second glume 3 nerved. Rachilla internodes curved, or zigzag. Lemmas 3–4 mm long. Lemmas veins 5. Lemmas glabrous, or with trichomes. Lemmas punctiform. Lemmas trichomes on the upper portion. Lemmas apices obtuse, or acute. Lemmas apices awns absent. Paleas equal or subequal to the lemmas. Paleas keels scaberulous, or scabrous. Anthers 1.5–2 mm long. Ovary apices glabrous.

Ecology. Flowering time Jun.-Aug. On mountain slopes , under forests, along forests edge or alpine meadows. 700–1800 m. Distribution. Northern China: Nei Mongol. Northeastern China: Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning.

Notes. Classification following Tzvelev (1976). Drobov (1915) illustrated the original description with several rubra-like leaf cross sections with differeing amounts of sclerenchyma.
