Subg. Schedonorus (Beauv.) Peterm, sect. Bovinae (Fries ex Anderss.) Hack.

Vegetative morphology. Culms (40–)150–200 cm tall. Culms 0.9–1.1 mm wide. Culms internodes scabrous. Butt sheaths absent. Sheaths shorter than the internode. Sheaths glabrous. Sheaths open more than half their length. Auricles claw-like. Ligules 1.8–2.2 mm long. Ligules scabrous. Ligules papyraceous. Leaf blades linear, or lanceolate. Leaf blades flat. Leaf blades (15–)30–60 cm long. Leaf blades (5–)10–20 mm wide. Leaf blades adaxial surfaces glabrous. Leaf blades abaxial surfaces with trichomes. Leaf blades abaxial surfaces scabrous. Leaf blades margins scaberulous.

Floral morphology. Inflorescences loosely open. Inflorescences 30–40 cm long. Inflorescences branches at the lowest nodes 2. Inflorescences branches scabrous on the angles. Spikelets 10 mm long. Spikelets lanceolate. Florets (2–)3 (uppermost floret incompletely developed). Glumes membranous. Glumes glabrous. Glumes apices accuminate. First glume lanceolate. First glume 2.2–2.8(–3.2) mm long. First glume 1 nerved. Second glume broadly lanceolate. Second glume 3.5–4.5 mm long. Second glume 3 nerved. Second glume shorter than first lemma. Lemmas 8–9 mm long. Lemmas lanceolate. Lemmas subcoriaceous. Lemmas veins 5. Lemmas with trichomes. Lemmas pubescent. Lemmas apices accuminate. Paleas equal or subequal to the lemmas. Paleas keels scabrous (linear lanceolate). Anthers 2.6–3 mm long. Fruits 5 mm long.

Ecology. In limestone areas. Distribution. Southern China: Taiwan.

Notes. This species appears to be close to F. arundinacea but we have not seen specimens.
