Vegetative morphology. Plants loosely tufted, or pluricespitose. Plants with shoots extravaginal. Rhizomes present. Culms 7085 cm tall. Sheaths glabrous. Sheaths open more than half their length. Auricles absent. Ligules 1.53.5 mm long. Leaf blades flat. Leaf blades 49 mm wide. Leaf blades margins scabrous.
Floral morphology. Inflorescences loosely open. Inflorescences 2026 cm long. Inflorescences branches scabrous all over, or scabrous on the angles. Spikelets 89 mm long. Spikelets broadly lanceolate. Florets 46. First glume 2.53.2 mm long. Second glume 44.8 mm long. Lemmas 7.58.2 mm long. Lemmas lanceolate. Lemmas membranous. Lemmas veins 5. Lemmas with distinct veins in dorsal view. Lemmas glabrous. Lemmas apices notched. Lemmas apices awns present. Lemmas apices awns 813 mm long. Paleas keels scaberulous, or scabrous. Anthers 1.72 mm long. Ovary apices hairy. Fruits 3.54.5 mm long.
Ecology. On mountain slopes, under forests, along roadsides. Distribution. Southwestern China: Sichuan, Guizhou. Southern China: Guangxi (Kwangsi).
Notes. Alexeev (1977) assigned this taxon to subg. Subulatae.
