Type: China, Kwangsi province, Steward, No. 338 (N). Subg. Subulatae (Tzvelev) E. B. Alexeev, Parviglumae S. Aiken & X.Chen sect. nov.

Vegetative morphology. Plants loosely tufted, or pluricespitose. Plants with shoots extravaginal. Rhizomes present. Culms 70–85 cm tall. Sheaths glabrous. Sheaths open more than half their length. Auricles absent. Ligules 1.5–3.5 mm long. Leaf blades flat. Leaf blades 4–9 mm wide. Leaf blades margins scabrous.

Floral morphology. Inflorescences loosely open. Inflorescences 20–26 cm long. Inflorescences branches scabrous all over, or scabrous on the angles. Spikelets 8–9 mm long. Spikelets broadly lanceolate. Florets 4–6. First glume 2.5–3.2 mm long. Second glume 4–4.8 mm long. Lemmas 7.5–8.2 mm long. Lemmas lanceolate. Lemmas membranous. Lemmas veins 5. Lemmas with distinct veins in dorsal view. Lemmas glabrous. Lemmas apices notched. Lemmas apices awns present. Lemmas apices awns 8–13 mm long. Paleas keels scaberulous, or scabrous. Anthers 1.7–2 mm long. Ovary apices hairy. Fruits 3.5–4.5 mm long.

Ecology. On mountain slopes, under forests, along roadsides. Distribution. Southwestern China: Sichuan, Guizhou. Southern China: Guangxi (Kwangsi).

Notes. Alexeev (1977) assigned this taxon to subg. Subulatae.
