Subg. Schedonorus (Beauv.) Peterm, sect. Bovinae (Fries ex Anderss.) Hack.

Vegetative morphology. Plants densely tufted. Culms 15–20 cm tall. Culms nodes 1. Sheaths shorter than the internode. Sheaths glabrous. Auricles claw-like (upward erect). Ligules 0.4–0.6 mm long. Ligules margins ciliolate. Leaf blades involute. Leaf blades 5–8 cm long. Leaf blades margins scaberulous. Leaf blades 0.9–1.1 mm wide.

Floral morphology. Inflorescences loosely open. Inflorescences 5–7 cm long. Inflorescences branches 2–3 cm long. Inflorescences branches at the lowest nodes 1. Inflorescences branches scabrous on the angles. Spikelets 8–10 mm long. Spikelets purplish (dark purple). Florets 4–5. Glumes glabrous. Glumes margins narrowly membranous. Glumes apices accuminate. First glume narrowly lanceolate. First glume 2–3 mm long. First glume 1 nerved. Second glume narrowly lanceolate. Second glume 3–4 mm long. Second glume 3 nerved. Lemmas 5–6 mm long. Lemmas with trichomes. Lemmas scabrous, or pubescent. Lemmas upper margins narrowly membranous. Lemmas apices awns 2–3 mm long. Paleas equal or subequal to the lemmas. Paleas keels scabrous. Paleas inter-keel regions scabrous. Anthers 2–2.2 mm long. Ovary apices glabrous.

Ecology. On grasslands of mountain slopes; 3900m. Distribution. Southwestern China: Xizang.

Notes. This species appears to be close to F. arundinacea but we have not seen specimens.
